There's another story in the book that has a minor character who's "FULL CHEROKEE" (thanks for clarifying her OMG FULL BLOOD STATUS I guess?) who can shift shape into various cats and there's a lot of stuff wrong with the story, but that character? Is a character who among other things belongs to a specific ethnic group. She's not magical because she's Cherokee. She's not special because she's Cherokee. She's special for a lot of reasons. It's possible to have characters who are not white without marginalizing the hell out of them or making them ~~MAGIKAL~~.
