Very helpful! I wish I'd known more of this when I was working retail (and, briefly, food service).
One of my not-so-bad retail jobs had a few of these flags. Unfortunately (for my sanity and stress-levels) the manager/owner was really *nice*, just clueless about how much work people could get done in a shift; didn't listen well (though he appeared to); and was terrible at things like getting us paid on time. The niceness made it harder to call him on stuff--for a while.
I suspect that I was put on indefinite leave (when there were some scheduling changes and employee reductions) in large part because I was the squeaky wheel. I wasn't working there much at that point, and it was honestly kind of a relief to be out. Of course, the 2 or 3 days' notice that they wouldn't need me to work my shift in the future was less than ideal for cashflow.
