American Psycho and a 13 year old

I dropped $4 or so to buy "American Psycho" so I could watch it with my 13 year old.
I like the book, and the movie. They are very obviously to me satire, a dark commentary on yuppies and the 80s and consumerism and "greed is good." Sadly, a lot of people have treated it as a proto "Fight Club" experience, where they embrace the awful character and actions without, somehow, realizing that they are awful.
When people don't get that something is satire then it's not good satire.
I still like the book though, or did when I reread it about ten years ago. If I read it now would I still like it? I don't know, but I did enjoy the movie.
I also had to butt in at times to explain things. What's the deal with the business cards? Why's he doing all that shit to his face? What's a rotary phone, what is that? Why's he returning video tapes all the time? Why are they so obsessed with that restaurant?
We also had a talk about the difference between horror and thrillers.
