Exactly. Frozen food is processed, so it costs more. Even the veg.
Our corner store doesn't have organic anything. It does have cactus.
A trip to a chain store reveals non-organic milk that's 50% more expensive than the chain store milk, and organic milk that's literally 3 times as expensive as their non-organic milk. It is totally out of our budget. Cage free and/or organic eggs are also 3-4 times more expensive.
In theory, I could hop on the train and hit the farmer's markets downtown on Tuesdays and Thursdays and get locally grown pesticide free fruits and veggies. In reality, it's an hour trip each way and while our station is ADA compliant the ones downtown aren't, and it's very difficult to schlep a toddler and a stroller up and down 2 flights of stairs.
