I learned to read whole-word style and the phonics teaching I had was crap (it mostly involved reading vowel sounds in chorus off of a mimeographed-- yes, mimeographed-- page. So dull! So tedious! So completely unconnected to how I actually read or wrote or spoke!) but still... I reverse things, I'm crap at spelling, I read (and comprehend) quickly but it helps if I mark where I am on the page... My handwriting has always been ok (and I've taken caligraphy and am able to do some lovely stuff when I'm paying attention), but I've always hated sharing handwritten notes because then whoever borrowed them would see my crap spelling and conflated b-p-q-g and random numbers (5 instead of f, for instance).
