Saturday Night Live, like a lot of (most? all?) television and movie productions, requires rigorous masking as well as screening & testing protocols, something that most people in the USA don't have access to. It's not surprising that the people writing for the show have a different perception of Covid than folks without those protections.
The writers are in general pretty out of touch with... a lot. They skim a lot of jokes off of twitter to the point where I really have to wonder how people who aren't on twitter enjoy the show. How much of it do they get? What did Joe Random think of that "Try Guys" sketch (written by a close friend of Ned Fulmer's)? How did that land? Did it even land?
Anyway, I'm guessing that if the comments section of your hilarious skit are full of people relating the tragic deaths, or new disabilities, of their loved ones you... ah... may have missed the mark. Just a bit.
